The Garden Route Botanical Gardens
Gorgeous walks and an excellent variety
The Garden Route Botanical Gardens is situated in George and although quite small in terms of botanical gardens, it is well maintained by a dedicated team of gardeners and botanists. When you arrive, ask for a map, it makes it quite fun if you have kiddies with you as well.
The natural beauty of the gardens is all that you can really ask for and enjoy as you talk a walk around several routes like the Mushroom Meander, or find a quiet spot to have a picnic. The gardens offer fabulous views of the Outeniqua Mountains, gorgeous walks and an excellent variety of indigenous plants such as Fynbos, proteas and mesembs. There is also a Bird Hive overlooking a tranquil lake to enjoy a quite time close to nature. There are so many are plants & trees, gathered in a relative small area, all making for a good walk around even if your mobility is restricted or your time is limited. A large pond that supports bird life and aquatic life is surrounded by a level path that is easy walking and has wheelchair access, with benches for the weary to enjoy the view.
The adjacent cafe / coffee bar offers a variety of refreshments and light meals.
