Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre

Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation and Awareness Centre is situated at The Crags, outside Plettenberg Bay and is dedicated to raising awareness about the indigenous wild cats of South Africa.

It is the largest wildlife rehabilitation centre in the area, and the only one that holds a permit to rehabilitate both marine and terrestrial species. The rehabilitation facilities admits approximately 300 animals and birds a year, with the objective of getting them back to the wild.

Tenikwa offers various programs which focus on the indigenous wild cats of South Africa, ranging from 1 hour duration to full day experiences. During these conservation-based programs guests learn about the cats and other wildlife conducted by experienced guides. The gate takings from these programs are used to cover the rehabilitation facilities which are not open to the public.

The Eco-Kidz Family Challenge is an interactive family-orientated program suited for family travel with children, whilst other programs such as Photographic Tours allow for wonderful photographs of the cats in natural setting. During tours, guests see African Wild Cat, Servals, Caracals, Cheetah, Leopard, Lions, Meerkats, African Penguins and other wildlife of South Africa.

The centre is open daily. It is not necessary to book for standard tours, but specialised or exclusive tours where there are limited availability need to be reserved beforehand.
